Brunton Binoculars

Brunton Binoculars is making a very big name for itself with its Epoch line. In 2005, the number of awards and citations these have received is lengthy, including "gear of the year" from Outside magazine, "Best of the best" from Men's Journal and listed among "The Year's 30 Best" in Popular Mechanics.

Not surprisingly, Brunton is also pretty good at other models. In fact, Brunton specializes in all outdoor gear, from an acclaimed solar roll to top-end portable digital barometers. If you trust these gadget geeks, your trust is not out of place.

Some Brunton binoculars
The Brunton MacroScope Close Focus (7x40) is just one example of a good binocular. It comes with a built in tripod mount on the scope. The 18 inch close focus is also utterly remarkable for long distant viewing, and it still retains color and clarity. All in all, these binoculars have the versatility one would expect from a company that knows how to handle everything from solar energy to altimeters. The one thing missing, though, is a lens cap. You can pick these up, and other accessories from the same supplier, though - just don't assume that they're included.

The main course at Brunton, though, is the acclaimed Epoch Series. These compete with the best optics from any other manufacturer. They are available in 7.5x43, 8x43 and 10.5x43 configurations. They have also come out with an 8-15x35. These are raved about by anyone who has ever looked into them, from experts to amateurs. Images are rendered very bright, and they remain sharp right to the edge of the viewing field.

The focus mechanism is the stellar attraction here: Brunton's own patent on variable speed focus allows you to go from zero to infinity with a turn of the wrist, and the real catch is the close focus. The minimum close focus is at 3.5 feet. Again, Brunton binoculars try to be everything to everyone - and they pretty much pull it off.
